Private 1:1 classes can only be booked on a weekday. It is also possible to book as part of a larger group where others are already scheduled to attend, please visit group classes.

Choose between wheel throwing or hand building or let us know if you have other learning objectives for your class. We can support continued learning in ceramics for beginners, improvers and intermediate levels and are able to design your class to meet your specific needs to support your continued learning in ceramics. 1:1s can be booked as a stand alone class or as part of a bespoke course as well as a stepping stone into a 6 week course. We can also focus your 1:1 on glazing and decoration techniques, electric kiln firing and other needs- please let us know.

1:1 Pottery Wheel Class

In this fun and interesting 2 hour class you will learn how to throw pots on your own potter’s wheel using a step by step method from centering your clay to forming it into a pot. You will then bring your piece to life through painting with beautiful colourful glazes. Your pot will be fired for later collection.

This informative step by step class is teacher led and focuses on how to throw a pot or dish, covering:

  • Wheel bat set up
  • Centering your clay
  • Opening your base
  • Pulling up walls
  • Tools and how to use them
  • Applying glazes

1:1 Hand Building Class

In this wonderfully creative 2 hour class you will make, decorate, and glaze a beautiful hand-built piece that you can cherish forever. You will learn a range of hand building techniques such as coiling, slab building, pinching and sculpture and can create many different items such as vases, dishes, plaques and more. Once you have made your piece you will be able to paint it with colourful glazes ready for firing and later collection.

This class is teacher led and teaches a range of hand building techniques including a range of the following:

  • Slab building
  • Coiling
  • Pinching
  • Slip and score
  • Impression
  • Making and applying relief and springs
  • Tools and how to use them
  • Applying glazes
